Lady Gaga lightning bolt – makeup tutorial

lada gaga lightning bolt makeup tutorial

Electro diva Lady GaGa is the current queen of disco kitsch. With her human hair couture, glitter-love and pvc knickers, Lady GaGa is inspiring make-up lovers everywhere to get colour confident and take on the staple electro make-up trend – the lightning bolt.

The video for her single ‘Just Dance’ shows Lady GaGa sporting a blue lightning bolt, but you can re-create the Lada GaGa lightning bolt in any shade you want with the fun, fresh and dynamic range of make-up from 17. Yep – Boots 17 makeup is getting electro this Spring, so they’ve kindly given us a tutorial on how to use their products to achieve an electro lightning bolt. Shazam!

Obviously, these makeup tips will hold true with whatever makeup you already have in your Magical Chest of Paint and Hue. We’re just saying that. You don’t need to buy a whole new range of make-up to paint a lightning bolt on your face. But the nice people at Boots 17 have told us how they got the Lady Gaga look using their own new range of colour-zipped products, and the Mooky Eds reckon that – in return for such a nice, thorough and useful tutorial – that’s fairy muff!

Step one: Create a flawless base

Begin with the basics and apply 17 Skin Perfecting Balancing Foundation, 30ml, £5.37 in Natural to even out skin-tone. Hide blemishes and dark circles under the eyes with a dab of 17 Hide Away Concealer Stick, £3.42 and complete your base with 17 Pressed Powder, 15g, £3.42 for a smooth, silky finish.

Step two: Make your eyes look smoking

Prep the lids with a pat of 17 Pressed Powder, 15g, £3.42, before sweeping 17 Eye Dazzle, £3.91 in Good as Gold all over the eye, from the lashline up to the browbone. Blend into the inner corners of the eye also for an all over shimmer.

Blend 17 Eye Dazzle, £3.91 in Star Cross into the crease of your eye, before lining the eyes with 17 Liquid Eye Liner, 8ml, £3.91 in Black and applying two coats of 17 Lash Illusion Mascara, 8ml, £5.37 in Black. The precision brush of this mascara defines and magnifies lashes for a false-lash effect.

Step three: Light up your look with the Lady GaGa thunder bolt

Begin by tracing the shape using 17 Metallic Eye Pencil, £3.71 in Silver – the light colour of this pencil will make it easy to clean up mistakes!

Lady GaGa wears her thunder bolt under her right eye. Begin tracing the shape from the outer corner of your eye, drawing a diagonal line to your ear lobe. Think of drawing a diagonal !H” shape with the top-right corner aiming to meet the bridge of your nose.

Once you have your basic shape, you can begin shading. Pick your favourite colour from twelve funky shades of 17 Solo Eyeshadow, £3.22 and use an angled eyeshadow brush to blend in.

Once you have the shape you want, seal it by tracing the outline in 17 Liquid Eye Liner, 8ml, £3.91 in Black.

Step four: Luscious lips

Complete the look with a slick of 17 Sheer Shine Lipgloss, £3.71 in Coral Quench and you are ready to set the dance-floor on fire with your Lady GaGa thunder bolt, which is verily more powerful than the dread lightning bolt of Zeus himself.

You can also keep your peepers out for the newly made-over 17 make-up, available in Boots stores and on boots.com from April 2009 and featuring new electrified shades and formulations.
