Avoiding Party Faux Pas
(or
How to Survive the Party Season)
|
by E_Diva
If you're like me with an early autumn birthday (or even helping to celebrate the birthdays of your friends), the next three months are going to be packed with parties. By the time New Year's is over, you'll be screaming for a Friday night in. All that high living can take a toll, but there are lots of tricks that can help you out so that you are always looking and feeling your best.
1. No matter how tempting, avoid the party snacks. Those wheat-based nibbles will have you feeling bloated by the end of the night if you go overboard. Plus, you'll never fit into that fantastic new frock by scarfing lots of junk food.
2. Pop some pills. Vitamin supplements are the best way to bolster your immune system while you're hitting the after-hours. Try milk thistle to help out your liver, Vitamin B for energy, and good old Vitamin C to conquer hangovers. You'll thank me in the morning.
3. Drink like a fish. Sure it's no cocktail, but water will keep you from becoming dehydrated. Try to drink one glass for every boozy drink, cause that blinding headache you get after a night out? That's alcohol, dehydrating your brain and causing it to swell. Not cool.
4. Don't mix your drinks. Trying one of everything may seem like a great idea at the time, but you'll pay for it later. Stick with what you know, or try vodka mixed with soda for pure, low sugar booze.
5. Crash out. Most of us are too tired to bother with normal cleansing routines after a night on the lash, so at least try to keep cleansing cloths and hydrating moisturisers handy to get the worst of your war paint off. It will save your face, and your sheets.
6. Say no to fry-ups. It may be the first thing on your mind come morning, but greasy, refined foods will leave you sluggish and you'll pile on the pounds from fat. Put the kettle on and have a ginger tea to cure nausea, then tuck into antioxidant-rich foods like grapes and strawberries.
7. Breathe. A little exercise will do wonders for your disco ravaged body. Go outside for a walk or swim a few slow laps in the pool. After a quick, cool shower you'll be feeling fresh and ready to party... again.
Quick Zit Tip: If you get a pimple or breakout on the big day, don't panic, try this at-home treatment. Crush regular aspirin with water to form a paste, apply to spots and leave until you're ready to start applying makeup. Rinse. The salicylic acid contained in aspirin will act as an anti-inflammatory and calm down red, angry pimples. Done!
