FITPIDGE.COM:
A REVOLUTION IN THE WAY WE THINK
Our cruelty to animals section can't just be a list of ways to be cruel to animals. Holly Kirkwood redresses the balance with a moving piece on how to love, honour and obey the humble pigeon. Touching stuff!

Living in London, or any sizeable rural conurbation, has its ups and its downs. Fighting against public transport, fighting to keep hold of your heard earned cash, fighting to get out of the way of drunken, well, fights on a Friday night are perceived downsides. On the up side, there is the fact you can have pretty much whatever you want, whenever you want, as long as you are prepared to pay for it. There are lots and lots of interesting and beautiful people out there to jump on/get to know, and are more drinks to try and venues to visit than you will ever get round to in your life.
But the face of urban life is ever changing: you loved that bar, oh shit, where'd it go? Swallowed up by the ever-changing tides of supply and demand which rule this dark realm. Oh, you quite loved that person, where the hell did they go? Oh, them? They lost their phone / moved to the countryside to milk sheep / ran off with your best friend.
PIGEONS: A GIRL'S BEST FRIEND
In this unforgiving, ever-changing, hard-assed urban world what the hell is there a girl can rely on, apart from a few good friends, a decent pair of shoes and the bus never coming? Well here, at long last, is the answer: pigeons.
Pigeons are part of the urban landscape, like midges are a part of being outdoors in the countryside. Pigeons embody the very spirit of a city. Their endurance, their ability to scavenge for free stuff, and their love of breeding and bringing up their young in extremely adverse conditions make them almost guaranteed to win awards for their constant triumph against adversity.
Let us honour the pigeon. Let us show him, and her, that we appreciate that they may not be the most loved of creatures, but we see they are still there, surviving everyday, which is just what we people have to do in the urban landscape we inhabit.
WHAT IN HEAVENS IS FITPIDGE.COM
Into this maelstrom of feeling comes FitPidge.com (**), a website where you can give beautiful pigeons, ambassadors for their species as they are, the recognition they deserve, and where you can also get grossed out at the unbelievable club-footed, one-eyed, bald monstrosities which happily go about their business every day, without a thought for conventional notions of beauty. Fitpidge.com: the way to show you care.
After all, pigeons are not just urban furniture, they are magnificent survivors who, if there is ever a nuclear holocaust, would be the only ones there at the end to make sure all the cockroaches get eaten.
FitPidge.com: let the revolution begin!
(**) FitPidge.com is an idea ahead of its time and does not yet exist. Watch this space, pigeon-fanciers!
PS... think 'hot or not'... but for pigeons...
