Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a wonderfully average girl who dealt with the vampires teeming from the hell-hole under her high school with increasing aplomb. With a her crack team of co-freaks, she broke all stereotypes and saved the day. Frequently. Buffy, we salute you!

Dear Buffy Summers,

You started high school as the average, all-American teen dream and graduated a bona fide defender of the Hellmouth! As the ‘Chosen One’ you showed those pesky, vampires/ demons/ supernatural scourges that Sunnydale was not for the taking and fly-kicked them back to the pit from whence they came.

You proved that women were more than capable of combating the undead, but none of it would have been possible without your beloved ‘Scooby Gang’, who always faithfully stood by your side on the quest to conquer evil nasties.

You were one of the original karate-kicking heroines – we raise our stakes to you!

Buffy Quotes:

Buffy: A cranky Slayer is a careless Slayer.

Buffy: A vampire with a soul? Oh my god, how lame is that?

Buffy: Whenever Giles sends me on a mission, he always says “please.” And afterwards I get a cookie.

Buffy: No, Angel, it’s not you. You’re the one freaky thing in my freaky world that still makes sense to me. I just get messed sometimes. I wish we could be regular kids.

Buffy: Okay, that was too close for comfort. Not that slaying is ever comfy, but. You know what I mean.

Buffy Is Best Known For:

Kicking demon ass .

Her rousing – albeit long-winded – team speeches.

Digging her way out of her own coffin with her bare hands!

Buffy Is Least Known For:

Knowing when to quit.

Turning her back on her friends.

A Short History of Buffy the Vampire Slayer

In high school you were the popular cheerleader everyone aspired to be, but your life took an unexpected turn when a stranger informed you you’d been chosen by fate to battle the undead. After initial reluctance, you took it in your stride (as much as anyone could, of course)!

After moving to the town of Sunnydale to escape the gossipers and befriending your soon-to-be Scooby Gang, you found forbidden love with Angel, subsequently losing your virginity to a vampire which resulted in him losing his soul. You survived high school to become a college student, defeating The Master, an insane vampire and also the local Mayor before a mysterious younger sister landed on your doorstep. We saw your heart break when your mother suddenly died due to a brain aneurysm, yet you held it together in order to take down a hell-goddess, selflessly sacrificing your own life to save the world.

Not one to be stopped, you clawed your way out of your coffin after being resurrected to maintain peace on Earth, which proved to be a good idea when your witchy best friend Willow went psycho and almost destroyed the world. But hey, you consoled yourself by having fun with former (vampire) enemy, Spike, then went to lead an all-female fighting force of Potential Slayers to eliminate The First.

Mooky Factor

Does this girl deserve to be anywhere but at the top? She practically douses herself in Holy Mooky Water before going to stake baddies through the heart. The character of Buffy was created to challenge the ‘damsel in distress’ cinematic trope, first portrayed in 1960’s B-movies and carried by a large majority of films ever since. Buffy didn’t need to be scooped up and rescued by the macho hero, she could watch her own back. Also, actress Sarah Michelle Gellar, who portrayed Buffy in the TV series, is a black belt in taekwondo, proving she is just as strong and independent as her cult show counterpart!
