Simple Steps For Students on Saving Money
by Georgie Hanmer
Being poor and constantly borrowing off your parents - if they'll let you - is a rough deal. You'll always be poor while studying, but Georgie Hanmer has come up with some tried and tested tips to save a bit of money and boost your student finance

We all know that living in this world nowadays can be hard on yourself and on your bank account; it just so happens to be more difficult for students, with student loans and bursaries being not that great.
But with a few simple steps, you will be able to save some money to go and buy yourself some nice things without feeling guilty for using all your supply money to buy that damn outfit.
1: Bargains are great
Never overlook a good bargain, whether it be 'buy one get one free on t-shirts' in a clothes shop, or 'buy one get one free on soup' in Asda or Boots' good old 'buy two get the third item free'. If you can get something extra for cheaper, or even better, free, then DO IT!!
2:The Big Shop
Never underestimate the power of 'The Big Shop'. Every once in a while, set a budget aside then haul arse down to your nearest supermarket. Just because you're a student doesn't mean you have to eat like one. Stock up on things like tinned goods and pasta which is a great cheap and quick foodstuff. Bread and meat which can be frozen. Frozen veg can also be a life saver. You'll never go hungry again!
3: Take advantage of student discounts
Always remember to take your student ID with you wherever you go, even to clubs, as sometimes this can get you reduced or even free entry. Check the internet and student guides for places that offer discount cards or vouchers. Also, lots of shops offer student discounts. If you're not sure just ask! And always remember... SNAPFAX!
4: Budget budget BUDGET!
If you're like me and are very bad (okay, useless) with money, the best thing to do is budget. Average out things like rent, bills and other expenses, then set aside whatever money/income you have to cover the guesstimate. It might sound tedious and boring but doing some accounting can help with any money troubles.
5: Don't worry.
The worst thing to do regarding money, or rather in my case lack of it, is to worry. If need be, sacrifices can be made, or you could get a part-time job or maybe even sell some things on e-bay just to get a bit more cash. There is always some sort of answer to the problem. You just have to find out which way you'd like to rectify it with.
In the end, after making a few cuts or being a bit more sensible with your money, you should be left with a bit more money for yourself. So you can actually go and buy those nice shoes you saw the other day or that new dvd from HMV. Always keep some money for yourself.
