How to not be bored
by Lucy Ireland
Bored with being bored? You might find these tweaks a helpful starting point to change, so you'll no longer be bored at work (or with lack of work, or your appearance...), Find new ways to stop being bored with your life.
Are you simply bored of being bored? This is quite a broad subject to write about and it is often difficult to discuss but we all get bored from time to time. Do you ever feel like you’re stuck in a rut? Then read on...
Bored? Change begins now. Why? Well... Why not?
Do you ever wake up in the morning dreading going to work? Or just not knowing what to do with your life? Then it’s time to be more productive. Often easier said than done, it can be particularly difficult to find motivation from within yourself. Today is the day that you can begin to achieve your goals. I often hear women I know complaining that they (for instance) have broken their diet, so they’ll start again tomorrow. Why tomorrow? Now is as good a time as any if you’re serious about making changes to your life. Whether you are bored of the town that you live in, bored of your job, sick of your endless struggle to improve your lifestyle or even bored of your relationship – it changes right now!
Bored at work?
Working the same job day-in-day-out can feel not only boring but soul-destroying! The first thing that you should do is try to excel at what you do. Receiving praise from colleagues and management can make all the difference to your attitude. The most important thing to do is set yourself challenges: start small and make a to do list. Many times we’re bored because we don’t have a challenge — things are too easy or routine. Consider setting yourself targets (you may even be persuing a promotion) and it is exciting to look forward. Learning more about things that go on in your work place can sound dull, but it’s interesting to know more about what you do every day, so try to take an interest. If you really dislike your job you should begin to educate yourself outside of work in something that you do love, and acknowledge that you might have to work so that you can fund achieving your personal dreams.
Bored with lack of work?
If you are unemployed, or even employed part-time, I can’t praise volunteering highly enough. It keeps your mind active, you meet new people and you are working for a worthy cause. Whether it be working with the elderly, children or on a community project, you’ll feel a strong sense of achievement. If you have funds and time to kill, volunteering abroad is a whole new cultural experience, and you may learn a lot about yourself in a new environment.
Bored with your appearance?
I often worry about my appearance, as many women do. It empowers us to feel beautiful - though I am the first to admit that I often let my beauty regime slip. Making small changes to your diet and exercise routines can make a world of difference to your mood, and your appearance! It’s amazing to see the long term effects of looking after your skin and hair. Mookychick offer plenty of articles and videos on health, hair and make up tips which could inspire you to make more effort with your appearance and I love to see girls who make the best of themselves.
Just... Bored?
Doing small things around your home can also make you much happier - after all, a tidy house can mean a tidy mind! I often write to do lists, choose parts of my apartment to clean, rearrange things, decorate. Actually taking steps to tidy your room sounds terribly dull but when you’ve finished you can breathe a huge sigh of relief and take a great deal of pride in the appearance of your new-and-improved home.
Recently I bought a pet (an African Pygmy Hedgehog) which has made a difference to my lifestyle already. I no longer smoke, which saves me a lot of money (I can't smoke in my apartment, anyway). I also have to budget weekly for things that he needs, so I’m constantly keeping an eye on my finances.
Anything as simple as reading a book can brighten your day and fill you with a sense of achievement. Bake some cookies, customise some old clothes, throw away things you don’t need.. even plan a party! Scout out a few ideas and tutorials for creative things and crafts, and you’ll never have to be bored when you’re home alone again.
Overall I would recommend that you do whatever you love, but try to enjoy the things around you. Bide your time and think carefully about drastic life changes, but try to make small changes to your immediate environment so that you can wake up every morning with a clear head and think about what you can do today to be proactive.
