New York City, USA

Geek travel tip: Midtown Comics

Midtown is the largest comic book retailer in the USA. They have three stores in New York: at Times Square, Grand Central Terminal and Fulton Street. Ryan Penagos, Marvel Comics Editorial Director says: “Without a doubt, you have to stop by Midtown Comics. They have three shops in Manhattan, each with its own vibe befitting its location, and they’re all packed to the gills with essentials for geeks of every ilk. I even brave the horrors of Times Square to get my comics from them.”

San Francisco, USA

Geek travel tip: Exploratorium

San Fransisco is home to Silicon Valley and it should come as no surprise that it’s got more palaces of geekery than there are logic gates on a circuit board. Travel blogger Wes Nations says: “One of my favourite places to “get my geek on” is the Exploratorium in San Francisco. It’s packed with tons of hands-on activities, online interactives, videos, and more – everything from generating lightning to playing bizarre musical instruments. For $15 US, it’s a great way to spend half a day.”

San Francisco, USA

Geek travel tip: The Musée Mécanique

Dedicated to arcade games from days gone by, exhibits include fortune teller, hotness appeal metre, Regina Sublima original music box and a Wurlitzer Orchistrion. Veronica Belmont, Tekzilla host (Revision3 internet TV) says: “The Musée Mécanique at Fisherman’s Wharf is the only reason I’d ever recommend going near the tourist wonderland of Pier 39! It’s an awesome museum, filled with antique arcade games and peep shows. Bring your spare!”

Sonoma County, California, USA

Geek travel tip: Rancho Obi-Wan

The not-for-profit Rancho Obi-Wan holds the world’s largest collection of Star Wars paraphernalia, including every book ever published about Star Wars.
