An interview with Freezepop

Freezepop Freezepop

by Velma Velvet

Velma Velvet interviews Liz Enthusiasm, the singer of electro-pop outfit Freezepop. Find out more about the band that brought us zippy lyrics like "Don't play with me / I'm not your toy. / Oh, can't you see / I am not your Gameboy" (a band in-joke, since they're apparently often asked if they've made their music on a Gameboy).

How would you describe a typical week/day in the world of Liz?

Hm. Well, I spend a lot of time in front of my computer. I take the dog to the park a lot. I go out a few nights a week. I do get to sleep in, which is the best part about being a freelancer.

How often does the band travel and what interesting things have you seen along the way?

We've been doing a lot of travel in the past year or so, but even before that, we were travelling on a pretty regular basis. I've seen so many amazing places, and had some crazy times. I can't even begin to narrow it down, but to find out more you can check out the Freezepop Tour Diaries.

What's your favourite colour and what does it mean to you?

Magenta. It's just lovely.

When you're on stage what emotions are usually coursing through your head?

Usually I'm having fun, especially if the crowd is having fun with me. Occasionally I get nervous if it's a really big show.

What's the food like on tour? Are you a healthy nut or a junk food junkie?

It's kinda rough - I mean, in the cities we do OK but when you're on the highway and there's not much besides McDonald's or Denny's, it's not the best. We try to eat sorta-healthy, otherwise you just feel like ass a few days into the tour.

If you could go anywhere in the universe where would it be?

I wanna go back to Tokyo.

The band's songs are very poppy and 80's inspired, where did your passion come from?

Well, it's true, we do like 80's pop. A whole lot.

What's the most important thing you want to say to all your fans?

Right now, I'd say: Go out and VOTE! (preferably for Obama).

And the lifelong question: Coke or Pepsi?

Dr Pepper!
