Feminism is...

Women being as good as men
Women being better than men
Women being as bad as men
Women being worse than men
Something else entirely. If I have time I'm going to tell you what I think on the messageboard

YOUR SURVEY ANSWERS: Feminisim today

We Mookychick editors have done all we can with our lives to show that women can be proud and true and that they can do anything a man can - even pee standing up, although we're happy to admit men do that a lot better.

But we're flirty. Yes, we enjoy trying to impress men... although we'd like to think our charms include our endurance and intelligence as much as our pulsatin' dance moves. And we love lipstick and fluff, too. Does that make us traitors to our fair sex? Post-feminist? Or feminist in a modern age where we're trying to establish our position in society not a first (thank you Emily Pankhurst!) but a second time around?

We care about love and understanding between the sexes. We love our sisters, and we love men too. We're just full of love!

We wanted to know what you all think of feminism today, whatever angle you take on it. Does a riot grrl wear lipstick? Is 'girl power' old-school feminism or something else? Is femenism really important, or no longer needed, or even a dirty word?

We've loved reading the answers you've given us on the online survey. It's been important to us that you've said something, anything - even if it's a 'yes' or 'no'. In a way, it doesn't matter to us what anyone thinks, whatever stance they take - just so long as they're thinking.

Every time we see your answers in our mooky survey we realise the world is a bigger place. Darlings, you're the captain of your own life - so never give up the ship!

Once you've checked out the thoughts from other readers below you can take the survey or find out more about what other mookychicks think...

Mookychicks speak: Is girl power underrated in today's world?

  • In my world, nothing ever goes out of style.
  • The feminist movement used to be a new, exciting, liberating movement in the sixties and seventies. Women were more free than they had been in hundreds of years and the euphoria that came with that must have been amazing. Wheras now, we're just about as free as we're going to get in the Western world... and yet teenage girls are still banging on about this empty, hollow concept of "girl power" while the media is taking full advantage of that by pumping out film after film/ tv show after tv show about girls who kick arse. Kill Bill one and two, Dark Angel, that crappy re-make of the Crow. The list goes ON AND ON!!! It's tired. It's cliche. And I wish it would stop. But that doesn't mean girls don't still need websites like mookychick, because at the end of the day we have to get our make-up tips from SOMEWHERE.
  • Women/Girls should have every chance they can get to experience everything, and then deal with the consequences. We only have one life.
  • More power to anyone who wanta to express themselves, and then learn the consequences. it allows personal growth.
  • Yes. Boys are so gross.
  • NO WAY!!!! DID U ONLY ASK THIS TO GET PEOPLE ANGRY!?!?!?
  • I think the Spice Girls, although producing fantastic cheesy pop for girls of a certain age, did a lot to damage "Girl Power". How can they say that they are empowered and don't need men when they spent the whole time posing half naked??? This idea of perfect body image and supposed "sexiness" is the most dangerous thing in this day and age. But no, the power of girls is not outdated, it is underestimated.
  • Yes pretty much but only when we let it
  • No, definitely not. Girls have yet to recover from the centuries of patriarchal systems.
  • Sounds a bit Spice-Girly, but i think someone ought to push it.
  • Not really outdated just changed - women are more independent and powerful.
  • The world needs us
  • Women are the greater being, god made them second because the first time, he didn't quite get it right
  • The power of girl isn't ever outdated, just underrated and swept under the rug. It's more socially accepted to be funny and powerful when your a male. Look at the leaders of the world, most are men. Men also out number women by far as comics.
  • I think girls are getting much more respect than men as business people

  • No, you can't get enough girl power
  • I think it's being eroded. I think it's mostly irrelevant now in countries where 'equal rights' apply. For example: Girls wearing clothes with the Playboy logo - what's the point of that, when a few years ago you were burning your bras protesting against stuff like that?
  • The power of girl is going strong and will continue to do so if we want.
  • Is the world still run by a group of middle aged neo-con balding men, or women with penis envy? Then we need it more than ever!
  • Girl power won't be outdated until it is unneeded ie equality between genders
  • Absolutely! But I feel a revolution coming on.....
  • It seems that all the fighting for votes and rights was wasted and today most girls degrade themselves by wearing belt skirts in order to dumb down. Why don't people want rights?
  • Girls need to appreciate what we have more and kick the world around.
  • Not any more with basic rights being infringed on abroad and even attempts by closet misogynists here... In the 90's... hell yes.
  • I think it needs to move forward, mostly.
  • Woman power, baby!
  • Girls are accepting being put down too much - jordan and jodie marsh are examples of this - it's like they want men to think of women just as pretty things to look at
