Harmony De'kya
Electro music: We think that the lovely Harmony De'kya sounds like Meg White disguised as Shampoo (Uh-oh, we're in trouble...) on crack. And that is definitely a good thing. Meet Harmony De'kya...

Harmony De'kya is an interesting mix of fresh talent and experienced old hand, having been involved in the music industry from the age of 3. At only 10 years old she received a standing ovation when performing a solo set at the Drury Lane Theatre. By 11 years old she was offered a place at 'Trinity Conservatoire ' in Greenwich, where she gained mucho musical understanding and more performance opportunities like doing solo vocals at Cadogan Hall. Musically precocious? Most certainly. A hard grafter from a young age, a bit like the Artful Dodger. Harmony has been gigging in London restaurants and bars from the age of 14, an age when we were still figuring out the important questions of life, like whether to have lemonade or coke with that pizza.
Harmony's got her own pleasantly edgy style, a sort of jazz with modern beats and syncopations. Some have called it sophisticated punk - we call it Meg White punked up, an honest British-accented voice that joyously veers between edged growliness and welcome frailties, blending several genres, timbres and attitudes in her latest album, The Superficial. Yes, of course she's penned all her own material. "I'm a mean motherf*cker with lipstick on / I've got a velvet dress and a silver gun". That's what real music ladies do - pen their own lyrics. They tend to have a little more grit that way. She's also produced a few electronics tracks (a bit like Mooky musical heroine Betty Boo who produced all her own work out of her bedroom).
Because we at Mookychick love decent electro so much, we're wary of anyone who gets an electro tag slapped on them - or, woe is us - brings out a vocoder. Urgh. Fortunately, Harmony De'kya stays cleer of the evil vocoder, which should be reserved only for tannoy messages on public transport systems, but she definitely has strong electro tendencies which we think work to her best advantage, as evinsced on tracks like Mean Motherf*cker or the excellent 'Broken Finger', both of which you can listen to on www.myspace.com/harmonydekya. Both Mean Motherf*cker and 'Broken Finger' have a pop lightness but some excellently thrilling musical hack 'n' slash.
Harmony is currently working with ace London producers and we hope she does grand for herself. So far, Time Out's called her a pop diva, Joss Stone's given her a mention and Fat talent's calling her the next big thing. And Visage Music Management are citing her as a cross between Blondie and Madonna. They've got it wrong though. She's actually Meg White disguised as Shampoo on crack.
Also, it's so nice to see Wendy James (Transvision Vamp) is one of her top MySpace friends. Good on you, girl! Everyone's got to love a little bit of Wendy James!
