Gothic Lolita with HANGRY & ANGRY and ALI PROJECT
by Whitney
J-music: HANGRY & ANGRY and ALI PROJECT are two Gothic Lolita bands with very similar fashion and sound (gothic and dark). Their music features in animes and they're japanese idol icons...
The J-music bands I picked for this article are two very good ones if you're a fan of the genre. The first, HANGRY & ANGRY, is a new punk rock band that represents a Harajuku fashion brand with the same name. They've only been around since 2008, so they don't have much out yet. But what they do is phenomenal.
The second is ALI PROJECT. They're very Gothic Lolita, in both appearance and music style. The kind of music they have is really Gothic and typically dark, and is probably considered an acquired taste. They've been around since the late 80's, but they keep making new music, which you will mostly see in Animes such as Kaibutsu Oujo (Princess Resurrection), Code Geass, Rozen Maiden, and many, many more.
HANGRY & ANGRY
HANGRY & ANGRY is made up of two ex-members of one of Japan's most famous J-Pop groups called Morning Musume: Hitomi Yoshizawa (Hangry) and Riki Ishikawa (Angry). If you're wondering, according to wotakunow.blogspot.com, the term "Hangry" refers to a feeling of being hungry and angry at the same time.
Although I haven't read any official information about this (there isn't much out there, trust me), I'll assume that HANGRY & ANGRY were formed mainly for advertising purposes. But I can definitely tell you that that's not all they do. HANGRY & ANGRY, since their debut on November 19, 2008, they've released six singles and 1/2 album. Their most recent album, Sadistic Dance, to be released in November 2009, is very likely to boost their overall popularity, as they surely are a rising idol group in Sushi-a-Gogo land.

ALI PROJECT
ALI PROJECT is another two-member group. Arika Takarano (Vocals & lyrics) and Mikiya Katakura (music & arrangement) formed the band in 1988 and released an indie album called Fantastic Garden. Their beginning works, unlike their recent works, were light, refreshing, and cheerful. Since around 1992, however, this light stuff was put aside and in came the dark, twisted, powerful songs. Arika Takarano calls this change "White Alice" to "Black Alice".
In 2008, some fortunate North Americans (over 9,000 of them) got the chance to meet the band at Seattle, Washington's Sakura-Con.

Mookychick believes that climbing trees and riding giant turtles is more fun and girly than worrying about make-up. But if you want to worry about make-up instead of turtles? Fine by us. Be you feminist, kitten, punk, emo, indie, goth, witch, vegan, horror junky, intellectual, christian goth, corset queen, geek, unicorn, sea monkey... be you into alternative style, alternative health, spirituality, comics, manga, j-pop, harajuku or jock culture... we will always love you.

Whitney is an American girl who lives for everything artsy. She is teaching herself Japanese and intends to go to Japan to become a graphic novelist. She listens exclusively to Japanese music because she's bored with the B.S. that's made in America. Although she believes in God, the majority of the stories she writes involve magic and sinning of some sort, because that's just the kind of stuff she digs. Maybe she's Discordian, after all..
