Lesbians on ecstasy

Bookmark and Share

Lesbians On Ecstasy (AKA Lezzies on X) is an electro band from Montreal. If you like Robots in Disguise and the harder electro sound of Peaches, then give these electro terriers a try. Fear ye not - their tuff electro sound won't turn you into a drug-spangled sapphic freak. Probably.

You might want to pose yourself the question: Are Fruity Frankie, Bernie Bankrupt et al really lesbians? And have they ever taken ecstasy? The answer is undoubtedly a resounding yes, but it's not the right question to ask. Sheep on Acid is a very fine band and no-one asks if it's alright to have drug-mashed sheep wandering around during soundcheck. The questions to ask are (1) Is their brand of electro hard and fun to listen to - yes - and (2) Has this band got what it takes - yes, their grrl credentials are impeccable and they make git 'ard music that's good to listen to and has a charmingly daft sense of humour. And their name shows that they are taking a confrontational stance. You will like our music, they say. But be warned - it is made by genuine lesbians.

The band consists of: Fruity Frankie ( Lynne T) on vocals, Veronique Mystique on bass, Jackie "the Jackhammer" on drums and Bernie Bankrupt on keyboard and samples.

Lesbians on Ecstasy toured across Canada and the U.S. with Le Tigre before the release of their first recording. The first album, the self-titled Lesbians on Ecstasy was released on October 26, 2004. In 2005, the song Bitchsy from this recording was featured on the TV series Queer as Folk. That same year, Lesbians on Ecstasy was chosen as the Album of the Year by U.S. magazine The Advocate.

In the summer of 2005, Lesbians on Ecstasy released their follow-up recording Giggles in the Dark, an LP of Lesbians on Ecstasy remixes by Le Tigre, Scream Club, Tracy and the Plastics, Kids on TV (featuring Maggie MacDonald), 1-Speed Bike, DJ AI, Jody Bleyle (formerly of Team Dresch), Katastrophe and Sean Kosa. Additional remixes were available for download on the web site by French producer Electrosexual, and Branx.

The band's third full-length release, entitled We Know You Know came out in the spring of 2007.

Mission statement

Mookychick believes that climbing trees and riding giant turtles is more fun and girly than worrying about make-up. But if you want to worry about make-up instead of turtles? Fine by us. Be you feminist, kitten, punk, emo, indie, goth, witch, vegan, horror junky, intellectual, christian goth, corset queen, geek, unicorn, sea monkey... be you into alternative style, alternative health, spirituality, comics, manga, j-pop, harajuku or jock culture... we will always love you.
