Have you heard... The Colt 45s?
Probably the easiest way to describe the Colt 45s sound is 'obscure, fiesty electro punk' (The Crack Magazine), but their own term is clatter-pop.
The Colt 45s started as a group of 4 friends who wanted to create something no-one else was doing. As well as playing as a band they worked hard to bring some electro life to the Durham scene; starting a successful monthly local bands night, DJin, and thus bringing the local venue back from the brink of closure.
The Colt 45s are 2 girls and 2 boys playing 2 guitars, 1 bass, a lap top, a sampler and a keyboard, plus 2 vocals.
Their influences include:
* Adam & The Ants
* Clinic
* Ikara Colt
* Neils Children
* PJ Harvey
* Sonic Youth
* Suicide
* The Kills
* To My Boy
* Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Crack Magazine (which looks at music from the North East of England)had this to say about their tracks:
'Hearts Still Beating' sounds like a couple of kids who've unwrapped a Smiths album and a Casio keyboard on Christmas morning, indulged in too much of their selection box and presented the end result to their pissed parents as they watch the Queens speech.
'Knife Attack' then lifts the spirits even further, a Jack the Ripper-esque tale of a bloke stalking a girl and then, er, killing her.
However, 'Cut My Hair' leaves the previous tracks in its wake, with an ace, pissed-off punk riff matched with a tale of scenesters wearing ripped jeans.
They recently got picked up by Filthy Little Angels, the label that launched The Long Blondes, and they're releasing a 7" split single late August and a full album October 29th 2007. So they're still small-scale, but up and coming.
