Have you heard... ShiSho?
With an average age of 9 years or so ShiSho (from Columbus, Ohio) really are the new kids on the block. The Ohio based band first came to the attention of the world when they released a cover of the classic Dead Milkmen single, 'Punk Rawk Girl'. Interesting choice for a couple girls under 10! The track was picked up by the indie radio scene in Cleveland, Ohio and they were tagged with having created one of the best new songs of 2004. Which sucked for The Dead Milkmen, but was good news for ShiSho. They have since contributed tracks to a number of Filthy Little Angels compilation albums including their cover of Sufjan Steven's 'Get Behind Me Santa'.
Despite their ages, Vivian and her little sister Midge don't feel like a novelty act. Along with kid core compatriots Care Bears On Fire, Fiasco, The Muldoons , Smoosh, Be Your Own Pet and Tiny Masters of Today, ShiSho's primitive music (and we mean that in a good way - it's fresh and not overly-produced) is a super-joy-joy antidote to your average stagnant pop. Quite frankly, it's the true spirit of punk, the true spirit of indie. To nick a fantastic line from a review elsewhere, it's music by the kids for the kids.
