Bee Pirate Hooker - Bebo-famous alt model spills the beans

Interview by Sharnea Morris

HeyHiHello! has an alternative electronic pop sound, which while being commercial, has strong, hopefully lyrical substance. Sharnea talks to Jakub Andrew, the upcoming indie sensation behind HeyHiHello!

Bursting with a larger-than-life approach to music, upcoming Ohio indie sensation HeyHiHello! is a one man band armed with charisma that leaves you feeling like you're filling up with sweetest cotton-candy, your heart melting into confetti pudding.

HeyHiHello!, also known as Jakub Andrew , is a electro-pop forced to be reckoned with. Along with fellow bassist Evan Davis and drummer Josh Arnold, it's hard to imagine why he's not known to the greater masses, although this deserved leap into the public eye is looking to be increasingly likely.

I can't help but flow along with the love-induced acid trip of songs like "Leap Before You Look" and "Goodnight, Moon". Reminiscent of artists like Mika and Lights, it won't be long before I find myself among the masses of thousands of electroclash fangirls squealing at this young prince's feet.

How would you describe the Heyhihello sound?

Heyhihello has an alternative electronic pop sound, which while being commercial, has strong, hopefully lyrical substance.

What drove you to pursue music?

I don't think I would say that I was 'driven' to pursue music. As a younger child growing up in a turbulent situation, music was a natural outlet for me to express myself. My fascination with writing music quickly grew into my passion within a matter of a few short years.

Getting this far as an indie artist, could you ever see yourself going mainstream? Is this your main goal?

Personally, I would LOVE to do this as my full time job; I'd like to share what I have with as many people as possible, that's all :)

What kinds of audience do your gear your music towards? Who could benefit the most?

Heyhihello has a strong appeal to 14 to 17 year old girls. There are a few guys in the mix, and I salute them. (laughs.) I feel that musically, my songs appeal to a younger crowd, but lyrically, I write with a more purposeful pen.

What do you think of other modern-day artists your age, outside your genre?

I love how a large portion of the music industry has gone "do-it-yourself". So many artists are letting go of record labels and simply marketing themselves. It's such a great idea, and it's obviously working!

How have you developed/Intend to develop your image as an artist?

It's important to me to have a large web presence, so I've spent the last few months marketing websites like Myspace (www.myspace.com/heyhihello), Twitter (@heyhihello) and Youtube.

If you weren't pursuing music, what else do you think you'd give in the name of art?

Besides music, I love the graphic arts - digital design, photography, and even cinema. These are all things I intend to pursue throughout the course of my life!
