Global Gathering Festival Highlights 2010

NEW FESTIVAL SITE LAYOUT

GlobalGathering – the UK’s cutting edge and forward thinking electronic music festival has announced the first details of their 2011 event, which will take place at Long Marston Airfield in Stratford-Upon-Avon on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th July.

Straddling two explosive days in the height of the summer, GlobalGathering will once again be showcasing the finest underground acts, exciting UK talent, critically acclaimed world-beating DJs and chart-topping superstars for a weekend of unparalleled hedonism and music that redefines the models of dance festivals.

The organisers are proud to announce that multi-million selling drum and bass luminaries Pendulum will be headlining the main stage. One of the standout dance rock crossover acts of recent years, Pendulum’s epic rise has been propelled in large part by their legendary electronica infused nu-metal show. Fans can expect them to land their signature breakbeats, hyperactive robotic synths and pounding bass. These festival ravers have risen to vertiginous heights with their metronomic thump crash rhythm of techstep drum n bass, they treat dance like it’s punk rock and will unleash their fierce, melody laced drum and bass action on the GlobalGathering crowd.

“GlobalGathering is pretty much the centre point of the dance music calendar and we’re ready to bring it when we headline there this Summer” (Pendulum)

Home-grown rap superstar and double-Brit winner Tinie Tempah also features in the line-up of headliners. With a number one debut album and two number one singles under his belt, Tinie is returning to GlobalGathering for the second year running, following a triumphant energy fuelled historic appearance at the festival’s tenth anniversary celebrations in 2010 where he locked out the Global Arena. Last year he promised he’d bring his thrilling torrent of drums and rave synthesisers back, declaring GlobalGathering is “(always doing it) bigger and better than any other festival.” This year he returns for a Main Stage performance to deliver on his promise once again.

Chase & Status, once underground drum and bass heroes and GlobalGathering protégés, currently riding high on the wave of critical acclaim and commercial success for their breakthrough album ‘No More Idols,’ are also headlining this year’s festival. The dubstep pioneers with their grimey beats and crazy bass noises are responsible for one of the most feted tracks of 2011 to date, the old school rave anthem ‘Blind Faith’, tipped only by having the accolade of producing a track for Global megastar Rhianna and British rapper Plan B. Stepping out from behind the decks, and fortified by live guitar and drums, this force will be bringing their stadium smashing full live show to the Global stage.

When Underworld took to the Beach Stage in 2005 to perform seminal track ‘Born Slippy’ the atmosphere was electric. The crowd went wild and GlobalGathering stalwarts classed this as one of their top moments in GlobalGathering history, so back by popular demand, one of the UK’s most-loved, respected and longest-standing acts, will headline the Global Arena. Underworld rose to stardom when their music featured on the soundtrack to Trainspotting, but the group, with their unique mix of techno, trance, dance, ambient and drum and bass, has been consistently providing anthems for legions of clubbers over two decades.

Superstar Swedish DJ Eric Prydz rounds off the headliners. As Mouseville Records and Pryda Recordings continue to deliver the dancefloor goods, Eric Prydz is now one of the world’s most in demand underground spinners and producers. Featuring one of the first uses of holograms in a live music show, in addition to 3D animation and a unique 30 metre structure that extends out into the crowd, Eric Prydz is set to break new ground with the world festival premiere of his EPIC show and 2nd ever appearance following a sold out Brixton Academy this weekend, once again giving GlobalGathering fans the freshest new dance music experience.

The additional 150+ acts confirmed to appear at this year’s festival read like a who’s who of the world’s hottest dance acts, which are currently blowing the roofs off clubs across the globe. Sub Focus (Live) house heavy weights Steve Angello and Axwell, trance titans Ferry Corsten and Eddie Halliwell, Sasha, John Digweed, James Zabiela, Fedde Le Grand, Benny Benassi, Nero, Above & Beyond, Annie Mac and Skream & Benga will be joined by many more as they play across 16 stages and arenas across the weekend.

Arena host favourites and international superbrand Godskitchen will once again bring the world’s hottest trance heavyweights out there Ferry Corsten, Eddie Halliwell, Markus Schulz, and Aly & Fila to the Godskitchen Arena.

John Digweed, the reliable steadfast pillar of dancefloor excellence, brings Bedrock back to Global. With the talent and ambition that has a way of separating the diamonds from the rough John Digweed’s Bedrock is set to move fans in more ways than they can imagine. James Zabiela, Marco Bailey, Psycatron (Live), King Unique, Guy J and more will all be joining the man himself in his Bedrock Arena.

Back by overwhelming demand and bigger, better and longer than last year FWD>> RINSE fans can expect to see last year’s dubstep fort on steroids. Snatching the arena status and upgrading to the later coveted indoor curfew and smashing all other dubstep lineups out there into oblivion, this year Global and the guys behind Rinse FM bring back Skream & Benga, Ms Dynamite, Zinc, Boy Better Know (Live), Roska & Jamie George, Plastician & P Money, Newham Generals, Geeneus & Tippa, NType vs Youngsta, Brackles vs Oneman and MC Youngman.

The legendary Carl Cox will continue his GlobalGathering UK residency with Carl Cox Revolutions Arena, sharing the stage with the likes of Loco Dice and Adam Beyer amongst others.

New additions to this year’s arenas include Metropolis, Wax:On, Techno Arena, and Above & Beyond present The Group Therapy Stage.

Storming its way to become a host heavyweight, Metropolis will make its debut as an arena host bringing the hottest monstrous UK bass bangers under one roof. Nick Douwma a.k.a. Sub Focus entirely self taught, he was noticed by Global veteran Andy C, and in a matter of months, he went from being one of many wannabe producers to becoming a permanent fixture of the award winning Ram Records family, which is why Global are honoured to have him around for his mindblowing live show. In addition to this, Nero, positioned as the sound of 2011 by the BBC, will bring their big room sound which merges drum ‘n’ bass and dubstep with elements of ‘Nineties commercial house and trance. Their music mashes euphoric synth stabs and soaring diva vocals with grinding halfstep beats and overdriven, electro basslines creating an emotional, club-friendly hybrid. On top of this the fresh sound of Skrillex, Caspa and Stanton Warriors are sure to ensure some filthy drops at Long Marston.

For the last 5 years Wax:On have been hosting some of the best electronic dance events in the country and have played host to over 200 amazing DJs and Live Artists and GlobalGathering wanted to champion them for their debut festival outing. Joining the Wax:On line-up will be Annie Mac, Boys Noize, Rusko, Jack Beats, Doorly, Jaymo & Andy George and Eskimo Twins. In addition to the Wax:On arena, this year Global fans will experience the London based Union arena playing host to the likes of Erol Alkan, Fake Blood, Felix Da Housecat, Sbtrkt & Sampha, Union, Bowski, James Rand and Mark Spence.

As part of the global tour for their much-anticipated second artist album, Above & Beyond will be hosting a stage at GlobalGathering this summer called Above & Beyond presents Group Therapy Stage. Handpicking their favourite DJs and artists, Above & Beyond will also play an extended set showcasing the cutting-edge sounds of the ‘Group Therapy’ album. Fans can also expect to see Sander Van Doorn, Gareth Emery, a reformed Gabriel and Dresden and more all celebrating this arenas debut at GlobalGathering.

Hospitality, the worldwide club event of top UK D&B imprint Hospital Records, will launch their Hospitality Arena. From humble beginnings Hospitality has grown to become a true titan of the scene, known for its feel-good music policy, show-stopping DJs and a friendly, up for it crowd. Fans can expect to see Andy C, High Contrast, Marky, London Elektricity, Danny Byrd, Dirtyphonics (Live), Camo+Krooked, Nu:Tone & Nat Williams, B-Complex, Netsky and many more.

In addition to Underworld and Eric Prydz (Epic Show) the Global Arena will be returning with Sasha, Joris Voorn and many others. The Toolroom Knights Arena will make its return with Fedde Le Grand, Mark Knight, Benny Benassi and more.

With a new site layout, re-vamp, spectacular new stage production concepts and plenty of surprises in store, the fans who will descend on Shakespeare’s country over the weekend can expect a new improved GlobalGathering this year, as the festival enters its second decade, with a line-up to match.

This year there will be a new VIP area, called The Club House which will be an entirely new concept never seen before at Global. Full details on the area will be launched shortly.

James Algate, GlobalGathering’s organiser said: “We couldn’t be more hyped up about this year’s event – it’s going to be the best yet.
