Mooky fashion for 2007

by E_Diva
As we close out 2006 and all the regrettable trends that went with it, says E_Diva, now is the time to turn our eyes to a bright future filled with japanese silhouettes, androgynous style and (thank god) the timeless ease of vintage...
The Future's So Bright

Another month, another season. Spring will be upon us very soon, and we will begin waving goodbye to last year's looks, as we wave hello to—wait, what year IS this, anyway? The newest runways are showing a welcome shift from the norm; you will notice a definite throwback trend emerging. In an effort to step into a brave new future, we are drawing from fashion of the past. The opaque tights and slinky sweater dresses in more demure colours such as grey or black for winter have been amped up to sizzling neon. Electric blue, day-glo yellow and the hottest of hot pink are only a few interesting new looks for sunny spring, as we boldly go where we've all been before. Here are some ideas for the new season!
The Swinging Sixties
Nothing says sixties like a free and easy baby-doll dress. The cacophony of buzz surrounding George Hickenlooper's biopic of Andy Warhol's tragic muse Edie Sedgwick has whipped this trend into a frenzy, and sixties inspired fashion is flying off the shelves. This look is all about clean lines including pencil skirts and cropped hemlines, with bold print, bright splashes of colour, or black and white mod pairings. Finish with a pair of killer heels and you're spot on for a chic sixties appeal.
Electric Eighties
The whimsical colour of the eighties is back with a vengeance, spicing up runways from avant garde designers such as newcomer Christopher Kane and the divine Diane Von Furstenberg. These designers are aptly aware that women have begun to tire of hedging their bets with safe purchases…we want glamour and we want it now! It's glorious to be seen in these eye-catching numbers, and the perfect way to ring in the bright spring season. Be sure to pick up a sassy pair of sunlenses, because for these popping hues you're gonna need shades.
Sporty Spice
Even if you're not up to all the leg baring rage, you can be sure to shine in new sportier looks. Activewear has been redesigned to complement lingering threads from last season, such as billowy volume and metallics, but is still relaxed and easy to wear. Even if you're not a gym bunny, you'll be snapping up hoodies, track pants with athletic piping, and a smart pair of trainers so that you can at least look the part. Still, if you've got perfect pins and you want the world to know it; cuffed shorts are the way to go with a snazzy wedge sandal and flattering top.
Don't Panic!
So how can you update for spring, without looking dated or starting from scratch? Don't chuck out your whole wardrobe, just follow these pointers:
• Your first step should be a bit of exercise, to firm up your legs and thighs. Try leg lifts, thigh presses, and squats to tone tricky areas, and alleviate signs of cellulite. The skimpy looks for spring aren't for the faint of heart, and you should be sure to step out with confidence!
• Say goodbye to black. Instead of being the rule, black is now the punctuation for the perfect fashion statement. The cardinal colours of last season—black, white, and grey—are taking a backseat to the real showstoppers. There's no need to go overboard though, these colours are so bright that you run the risk of clashing if you pile too many into one look.
• Big is back. Get ready to breathe again, because skinny jeans are on the way out. In keeping with last season's exaggerated silhouette, you'll finally be able to break out your loosely fitted jeans without feeling like you're wearing your fat pants.
• Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize! Hats, scarves, jackets, chunky jewellery, and fabulous boots—the key to revamping your old wardrobe, is tossing in one or two stunning pieces. This gives the illusion of new looks, without the pricetag. Shop for classic pieces that you can mix and match with things you already own, and in the long run you'll save a bundle.
