Come and write for Mookychick!
Just email your article (or pitch) to editor@mookychick.co.uk. In the body of the email or attached as a seperate .doc include your preferred author name, paragraph of bio in the third person, a personal link if desired and a profile pic. Giving you an author profile is our way of showing thanks for your hard work. Soon, you'll be getting a visible author page...
Contributions have a very flexible 600 word mark: Honestly, just write until you've said what you need to say. Sadly we can only take contributions that haven't been published anywhere else, not even on your beautiful blog. Contributions are unpaid - we're really sorry, but this is all about the love and the writing portfolio, not the money.
Oh, and if your writing is mooky enough and you can dig where we're coming from, you're allowed to be a boy. We also welcome trans content and perspectives. Obviously. In a better world we wouldn't even have to say it, but we just want to make that clear.
Our house style...
Our writers are often sweet and ballsy. They write about cats, boys, bands, really really important science, feminism, the history of absinthe, the perils of being a woman and the joys of having the world at your feet. We love funny, as loyal readers know. We have a finely-honed sense of the ridiculous, and we suspect you do, too. Of course, not all articles have to be funny. There's nothing funny about bloody Ann Coulter, or the wonderful Merle Hoffman. It's up to you. We love information and as many helpful or fascinating details as possible in our articles.
Content we're looking for:
Feminism
Did some sexism happen to you today? Is it happening elsewhere in the world? It probably is. It usually is... and we want to hear about it. We also want to hear about succesful feminist activism as it happens - Slutwalk, for example. Or we want to hear about your feminist icons. Your writing may be whimsical, impassioned, elegant or as blunt and direct as a dreadnaught. When appropriate, we love work to be well-researched, cite sources and feature further links and resources. Who are you as a writer? Write like that.
Activism, Politics and LGBTQ
There's a lot going down in the world, either right in everyone's faces or deep underground, and we want you to cover it. We prefer activism and politics from a feminist perspective. We are always looking for more LGBTQ content.
How-to Guides
Our how-to guides cover everything from monster hunting to arguing without passive-aggression and surviving earthquakes in Japan. We like to receive 'Top 10' lists, too.
Arts and Crafts Tutorials
We absolutely adore getting these. If you know how to make something, send it in, ideally with images to show at least a few of the steps and the final article. Images should be 400px wide and any height.
Alternative Style, Hair and Makeup
General articles are a joy to receive if there's a style tribe or aspect of alternative fashion we haven't covered. Specific articles - like a step-by-step makeup/hair tutorial or a guide to Zettai ryouiki - are absolutely perfect. We can't wait.
Reviews
Books. Comics. Films. Music. Art events. Video games. Yes, please.
