Dark Mermaid Alt Fashion Shoot with Naddy Sane
Let it be known that this gorgeous alt fashion spread was shot on a full moon. It’s inspired by strong female heroines of fantasy in general, and by dark mermaids in particular. While we all love mermaids, we mustn’t forget that these fantastical creatures frequently live where there’s no sun, hidden deep in the virtually inaccessible depths of the Mariana Trench. Their tail fins may be slender and trail in the currents. Their jewelry may be crafted from delicate shells and pearls and strings of seaweed. Nevertheless, dark mermaids are powerful creatures capable of withstanding darkness, isolation and the intense pressures of the ocean depths.
She may look fragile to the human eye, but the dark mermaid is a strong creature and a complicated heroine. She is to be respected as well as admired.

Let us pay tribute to the Dark Mermaid: Some of the most fragile creatures are the strongest you could ever know…
Headpiece: Jackalopeland. Dress: Luke Anthony Rooney.
The dark mermaid is a creature of magic, at one with the water whose tides ebb and flow with the phases of the moon.
Catsuit and tutu: Jackalopeland.
The dark mermaid is sleek and strong, an arrow in the water. She surfaces to sing, a lone proud figure on a distant rock, when the moon is full.
Eye hair clip: Annike Silkkepinneklisseklass. Catsuit: Jackalopeland. Jacket: Nympha. Shades: Model’s own.
The dark mermaid is always invited to the party. When she gets there, she is dazzled by the lights. Who are all these people? Why do they drink what she swims in?
Jacket: Nympha. Catsuit: Jackalopeland. Bag: Annike Silkkepinneklisseklass.
The dark mermaid lives alone. Sometimes, she wonders what it would be like to know others of her kind. Sometimes, she prefers it this way.
Cape: Jackalopeland. Bralet and skirt: Nympha.
The dark mermaid of the northern hemisphere may have the golden hair that sailors dream of, but she is no Barbie. She is no doll to be played with then put away at another’s whim. She is the power of the depths and tides.
Dress: Jackalopeland. Shells: Nympha.
The young queen of the dark mermaids is draped in pearls, and rightly so. She takes care of her kind. She states their case bravely at UN functions, and talks with the other ambassadors while seated gracefully in a giant champagne glass filled with sea water. To make the humans understand and not be scared of her otherworldly kin, she has even learned to laugh and dance. If she must. On occasion. She will do whatever it takes – even talk to humans – if it will help her fellow mermaids survive the trawler’s nets.
