Cherry Bomb: The Ultimate Guide

Cherry Bomb: The Ultimate Guide

Cherry Bomb: The Ultimate Guide to Becoming a Better Flirt, a Tougher Chick, and a Hotter Girlfriend, and to Living Life Like a Rock Star contains life advice from Tori Amos, tattoo advice from Kat von D and vintage style advice from Katy Perry. A useful book, indeed…

Now, I’ve seen the self-help section in the bookstore. I’ve browsed a few of the covers in boredom; reading titles such as ‘How to be a Better You’, ‘That Dream Job is Just Around the Corner’ and ‘No, they aren’t really Laughing At You’. I’ve sneered and walked off, wondering who would ever actually buy such a crock of crap.

But move over Doctor Phil – there’s a new gal in town. And she’s here to tell you exactly how to make your life better – the rock star way!

Cherry Bomb – (or Cherry Bomb: The Ultimate Guide to Becoming a Better Flirt, a Tougher Chick, and a Hotter Girlfriend, and to Living Life Like a Rock Star to give it its full title) by Carrie Borzillo-Vrenna is the ultimate in self-help books, covering everything any self respecting rocker would need to know. With articles ranging from how to get backstage (without dropping your knickers) to how to tie a cherry stalk into a knot (and that’s without using your hands, ladies. Remember Twin Peaks?) it is a must on any bookshelf of any woman on the planet.

Articles are ordered alphabetically for ease of use, with a detailed contents list at the front making it oh-so-simple to find the gem of knowledge you most desire. The sections are long enough to give you the lowdown but don’t risk boring you silly.

Whilst Carrie, being married to Chris Vrenna, has the know-how to dish on most things superstar there are a few areas out of her expertise. For those gaps in her knowledge, she has enlisted a huge selection of equally awesome chicks to help her out. With Life Advice from Tori Amos, Tattoos by Kat Von D and how to rock vintage style straight from Katy Perry’s mouth, this book has everything from everyone and more.

Not everything about this book is peachy keen – or, indeed, cherry keen in this case. For one thingm the price is a little on the dear side. At £11.57 a pop on Amazon, this book is definitely to be filed under luxury treat. Plus some of the articles can be a little on the short side for what you really want. And whilst Carrie does, I’m sure, have the best intentions, sometimes she can come across as a little patronising. Or maybe that’s just me being sensitive.

However, price aside, this book is a real gem on your shelves. Educating the masses in the art of drinking absinthe, setting up a threesome or flirting with a celeb, it’s a delight to read. The illustrations are cute and quirky, whilst the quizzes add a little interactive spice into the mix. And in case anyone was wondering… Yes, I could handle dating a rock star. Apparently I’m mostly Sheryl Crow and there is a strong chance I’m bi. Who’d have thought!

Cherry Bomb: A Complete Guide is filled to the brim with adorable illustrations, quirky articles and oddball quotes from the best and brightest in the business. From teenagers to mothers, there is something for everyone here. Let’s face it, we’d all rather be a better flirt, a tougher chick, a hotter girlfriend and live a little more like a rock star.
