Raccoon doll felt crafting tutorial
Step 1: whatever kind of cloth you plan to use, find a large piece. Draw the outline of the raccoon on the cloth via a white carbon pen. Then, cut all elements off from the cloth. Items displayed here include ears, arms, tail, body, head and face.
Step 2: ears are the first part to be sewn up. Pay attention to this: while cutting ears, four pieces will be needed because each ear is double layered. So, sew up every two pieces here.
Step 3: white lint is sewn onto the center of ears. Place it onto the ear. And some slight cutwork may be needed to make the white lint seem like merging with the pink ear periphery.
Step 4: then, sew the arms now. Likewise, four pieces will be necessary. After sewing them up, fill some cotton into each arm. So, two plump arms have been finished here :P.
Step 5: it’s time to design the tail. Raccoon’s tail is white at the apex. So, cloth in white and pink will both needed here. Before sewing them up, turn inside out. In this case, all needles will be hidden inside. A better look is ensured. Like before, two pieces of white lint and two pieces of pink lint are necessary. After being sewn up inside, roll it over. So, it looks like this.
Step 6: make the body now. First of all, sew on the abdomen – the white lint ball. Place both arms onto the right place and turn over the body totally. Yes, you need to sew on the interior side too. Sew up the edge of body, legs and fix arms onto the body. Then, turn over the body and the right side of it looks like this.
Step 7: the large pink piece is used to make the head. First, sew on the face onto the head – the white lint tabular piece.
Step 8: if you also keep a notch on each cloth piece, sew them up now. Since all cloth pieces are made to be double, you will need to sew up two head pieces here. But don’t sew them up fully, but one half please. And leave a small opening at the bottom.
Step 9: separate two head pieces and place two ears inside. Sew them up and then the head is finished.
Step 10: place all finished elements here. You have already seen a rough look of the raccoon, right?
Step 11: fill cotton into each part. Be cautious here because asymmetrical cotton may cause an abnormal look of the doll at last.
Step 12: sew up the head with the body.
Step 13: make a nose for the raccoon now. It’s okay to cut a piece of black lint and fill in cotton. Or, cover a small ball inside the cloth directly. Then, sew it onto the face. Just make sure it’s placed at the middle of the face.
Step 14: while fixing the tail, a button is needed. Thicker threads are recommended to be used here. And you are not suggested to sew the tail onto the body directly because it will be movable if fixed by a button.
Step 15: when it comes to sewing the eyes, you can fully express your creativity. I made four different looks (see photos on right). Is there anyone also loved by you?
