Easy Craft Tutorial For Writing Watercolour Rainbow Text
Grab your paints and use this easy rainbow watercolour technique! Great for Tumblr quotes and more.
This is a really easy technique for writing whatever you like in rainbow watercolours. It looks messy but comes out beautifully nearly every time. You just paint the words in water first, gently dab in watercolours then leave it to dry. Easy!
The end result looks a bit like this:
Okay, so let’s practice by creating a heart shape. Something small and easy…
As you can see, you don’t need much. Just some paper and a glass of water along with a fairly thin brush and some cheap watercolour paints.
Now paint a heart shape in water on your paper. Do the outline first then fill it in. If you’re doing words, just paint the words in water straight onto the paper.
Next, do little splooshes of watercolour next to each other – they’ll start to ombre and join. A little dab at a time is fine.
Is it all getting a bit drippy? Not a problem! Just grab a tissue to dab off the excess water.
You’ll end up with something a bit like this. Now just leave it to dry!
What’s really great is that the paint collects at the edges, so you’re left with a naturally darker outline of colour which edges your shape/writing for a strong contrast. Even more win.
So there you go. This technique is incredibly easy and satisfying to do, and it costs as much as a paintbrush and a cheap box of watercolour paints – which you can, of course, re-use for all sorts of craft projects. Give it a go!
