Poetry by Siobhán Carroll : Something Real
Something Real
My most difficult relationship
Is my relationship with reality
Spots shimmer, birds fly backwards
Nothing stays
still.
Couples counselling is fraught;
Reality is unyielding,
reconciliation unlikely.
But I see magic in a striped t-shirt
zombies in an empty garden.
Sparks fly from my fingertips
I wonder where I really am.
She shrugs, neither of us can change
but maybe neither needs to —
We will dance around each other forever
One-two-step until the music runs out
One-two-step until we all fall down.
