America’s Wet Dream – Poetry by Claire L. Smith

Hourglass

Women in Hollywood are treated like sex objects, often discarded when their shelf life is considered to have expired. #TIMESUP

A face and body,

A sealed identity,

A pretty little joke,

The American wet dream.

The childhood is lost

By the selfish ghoul.

A pure, stolen babe,

In the claws of hungry demons.

A hopeful’s place,

An angel’s alter,

The mouth of a pretty sinner,

Sourly sweet promises.

Bruised knees and stained lips,

Breasts pressed and plumped,

Eyes a dark oval glass,

From years of faithful worship.

Hope smothered by the champagne,

Diamonds hang like chains,

Her smile an old joke,

Her words a repeated phase.

Her beauty and worth ages,

Her tears a pathetic attempt,

The gatekeepers retract,

The last of her fades.

A used condom,

Tossed into the trash,

A petty memory,

A sad little rash.
