Gingerbread Girl

I’m your design, button licorice eyes,
the dripping vanilla glacé outline
you spread across aromatic thighs,
the ratio, sweet to spice, you assign
from years of tasting girls like me. Perfect
my recipe from a patisserie
of dozens difficult to digest,
cinnamon hearts, hemlines harder to see
until at last you nibble me, slow,
to know I’m one you could swallow, tan limbs
in too few bites — will soon, beneath the glow
of twinkling lights. Long legs you shaped, a whim,
mar glass jar fantasies once in the world;
you never will catch your gingerbread girl.
